From October 17 to 19, partner Milena Cramar Lôndero represented our firm at the First National Meeting on Community-Centered Connectivity, held in São Paulo. The event was a unique opportunity to discuss essential topics such as meaningful connectivity, community internet networks, local services, digital sovereignty, and data protection, bringing together a select group of representatives from the public, private, academic, and third sectors. In addition, the event was attended by renowned organizations, such as the Brazilian Internet Steering Committee (CGI.br) and the Brazilian Association of Internet and Telecommunications Providers (ABRINT).
The project that originated the event is part of the Local Networks (LocNet) initiative, developed by Rhizomatica and APC Network, with funding from UK International Development of the United Kingdom government through the Digital Access Program. The event’s organization also involved collaboration with entities such as IRIS-BH (Institute for Internet and Society Reference), dedicated to research and policy development related to the internet and digital rights. Our partner participated in the meeting on behalf of ISOC — Brazil Chapter (Internet Society — Brazil), a global organization dedicated to the development of the Internet, aiming to support the development of Internet standards and promote educational initiatives and public policies related to the global network of computers.
The event marked an important advancement in this debate at the national level!
